Homeless...
We are almost minus a house! Everyone say a little prayer that we close on the house this week.
After all this mess, I don't know if I ever want to buy another one...

I Know It's Only Rock and Roll...
So Lee decided to introduce me to the wonderful world of entertainment this week.
As most of you know, Lee worked in the entertainment industry until we moved to Texarkana. He does a few gigs at the Perot Theatre in town, but only for fun.
This week he had the opportunity to do the load in and load out for the Rolling Stones in Little Rock and asked me to join him. I unwittingly agreed.
Our day started at 4am when we had to get up and get ready. We left Texarkana at 5am and arrived at the Alltel Arena at 7:45am. There were 28 semi trucks (that's what I was told)awaiting our arrival. There was a huge local crew and a huge road crew. Everybody was freaking out about how many trucks there were, I didn't know any different so I tried really hard not to get overwhelmed.
We unloaded the cases off of the trucks in a couple of hours and began set up. I learned real fast not to do anything unless I was specifically told. For some reason they don't appreciate self motivators in a group of day laborers. It could have something to do with the millions of dollars worth of equipment, the people running round hundreds of feet up in the air doing the rigging or maybe just because we don't know what the heck we are doing.
It was absolutely amazing how a bunch of cases can end up being this big set with the stage and lights and screens and speakers. I will never go to another concert without comparing it to this show.
We were done with the load in at about 2pm and too a break (and nap) until 10:30. We went back to the arena and watched The Stones on the video monitors backstage. As soon as the lights came on we jumped out there and started tearing apart everything we had just put together.
Lee got really lucky and was assigned to be a pusher (pushing the cases to the trucks).
I, on the other hand, was assigned to sound. I never realized how heavy cables are!! I rolled more cables than I thought humanly possible. I did not complain and I pretended like it didn't hurt when I tried real hard to get a hernia lifting a 5 million pound sound board to the ground with a bunch of grown men who were straining. (I actually did that twice because there were 2 boards on our side of the stage.)
I have to admit, for someone who didn't have the 1st clue as to what I was doing, I faked it really well. I don't think anyone knew it was my first show. It was the hardest work I have ever done, but I enjoyed it and would do it again, just not tomorrow.
I didn't get to see the concert live or even the band, but I did get a t-shirt...
